About Super Bowl
The NFL represents the highest level of football competition in the
world and the Super Bowl is the game every player in the NFL dreams of
playing in. The NFL is comprised of 32 teams divided into the National
Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC).
The teams of each conference are grouped into four divisions within
their league. In both the NFC and AFC, the divisions are called the
Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern Divisions.
The NFL season lasts from August to February and includes the
pre-season, regular season, playoffs, and the Super Bowl. Teams play
16 games during the regular season to compete for positioning during
the NFL Playoffs. The Seed order is determined first by winning a
division; Seed 1 is the division winner with the best record and Seed
4 is the division winner with the worst record. Seeds 5 & 6 are "wild
cards," meaning that they are the teams within the conference with the
next two best records regardless of division. The highest seed is
always the home team and the best seed always plays the lowest seed in
that round (Seed 3 vs. 6 in round in for example). This system went
into use in the 2002 season when the conferences were divided into
four divisions instead of three.

2004 Super Bowl History
In February 2004, what was supposed to be a colossal bore turned
into one of the most exciting Super Bowls ever with a thrilling
back-and-forth final quarter that Adam Vinatieri finished off with his
foot. Tom Brady set up Vinatieri's 41-yard field goal with four
seconds left to give the New England Patriots their second NFL
championship in three seasons with a 32-29 victory against the
Carolina Panthers.
Not only did Vinatieri win this one, he did the same thing in the
Super Bowl two years ago, beating the St. Louis Rams on the final play
of the game. "Nobody makes all of them. But if you've got to have one
kick with everything on the line, he's the one you want kicking it,"
New England coach Bill Belichick said. "It was an awesome kick. It was
a great kick. That's the game. That's what Adam's here for."
Most of the first half did live up to the predictions that two
defensive teams would make for a dull game. They were scoreless for
nearly 27 minutes, the slowest start in Super Bowl history, and
Vinatieri missed one field goal and another was blocked.
But that changed in the final three minutes of the first half and
again in the fourth quarter, when the teams combined for 37 points,
the most in any quarter in any Super Bowl.
