Alabama Football Tickets
Former Alabama football coach Bear Bryant's 323 major-college football victories
have been eclipsed by Penn State's Joe Paterno and Florida State's Bobby Bowden,
but Bryant left a legacy that encompassed more than 37 winning seasons overall
and five Associated Press national championships at Alabama. No college football
coach in the second half of the 20th century commanded a bigger presence.
Alabama football coach Paul Bear Bryant became an icon, a symbol of strength and
moral righteousness as much as success.
Auburn Football Tickets
In five seasons at the helm of Auburn football, head coach Tommy Tuberville has
built a program that excels both on and off the field. The season before
Tuberville's arrival, the Auburn football squad finished with a dismal 3-8
overall record and a last place finish in the SEC Western Division. Tuberville
guided the Auburn football program back to the top of the league standings,
leading Auburn to three consecutive Western Division titles including an
outright championship in 2000 and co-championships in 2001 and 2002. Under his
direction, the Auburn football Tigers have made four consecutive bowl
appearances including two New Year's Day bowl berths.
Georgia Football Tickets
After three years heading up the Georgia football program, Mark
Richt has made it clear that winning with consistency will be a
standard for years to come. In three seasons, his Georgia football
teams have won two SEC Eastern Division titles, one SEC championship,
and his 32-8 record is fifth best in the country since 2001.
LSU Football
Tickets
LSU football?s speedy defense harassed and sacked White all night holding him to
just 13 completions on 37 attempts for a mere 102 yards and two interceptions,
one returned for a touchdown. The LSU Tigers sacked the Oklahoma signal caller
five times for 46 lost yards. LSU football?s offense, while not overwhelming,
managed to gain more than twice the yards per play in comparison on its way to
312 total yards, splitting those almost evenly at 159 yards on the ground, 153
in the air.
Michigan
Football Tickets
The Ohio State/Michigan football game has always been important, but it was not
always the last game of the season. This practice began in 1935 and, except for
one year, the tradition has continued. Often the game has determined the winner
of the Big Ten and who will represent the conference in the Rose Bowl. An ESPN
Poll rated the rivalry as the greatest of all time.
Notre
Dame Football Tickets
Willingham is in the midst of a restoration project of Notre Dame Football that
has already yielded some major successes and a revitalization of the entire
football program. While guiding his Notre Dame Football team through a rocky
season in 2003, Willingham continued to earn the respect of his staff and
players by displaying a consistent, intense and stable approach to leadership.
Ohio
State Football Tickets
By all accounts, Jim Tressel and the Ohio State football staff have put together
four solid recruiting classes. With the loss of 26 seniors from last year's 11-2
Ohio State football team, those recruits will have every opportunity to strut
their stuff this fall.
OU Football
Tickets
History is one tough customer at OU football. The tradition, so rich and so
long-standing, is as daunting as it is impressive. To be among the best at OU
football is to be among the best in college football. Such dramatics are lost on
OU football?s Bob Stoops. The OU Sooner head coach befriended the would-be
albatross of OU football?s successful past from his first day on campus and
remains steadfastly focused on tomorrow and the championship it holds.
Penn
State Football Tickets
In the era of the Internet, PlayStation2 and cell phones, Penn State football
coach Joe Paterno is every bit as relevant as he was when Harry Truman occupied
the Oval Office, the Dodgers were in Brooklyn and Paul Bryant was a football
coaching novice at the University of Kentucky. For 52 years and 582 games,
Paterno has passionately served the football program at the Pennsylvania State
University with honor and principle.
University of Michigan Football Tickets
Carr's 2001 University of Michigan football squad posted an 8-4 overall mark and
finished 6-2 in the conference. Michigan football highlights included handing
Penn State its first home shutout in Joe Paterno's 36 year coaching career,
registering a 20-0 victory in Happy Valley, and defeating eventual Big Ten
champion Illinois 45-20.
USC Football
Tickets
It took energetic and charismatic USC football head coach Pete
Carroll only 3 years to restore the glory of the USC Trojan football
program and return Troy to national prominence. He begins 2004 29-9
(76.3%) as a college head coach (all at USC football). His losses were
by a total of 42 points (4.7 average) and only 1 was by more than a
touchdown (it was by 11 points). After starting off his USC football
career 2-5, he has gone 27-4 (87.1%). His USC Trojan football team is
10-0 in November. His football teams already have posted 4 shutouts.
He also serves as USC football?s defensive coordinator.
Virginia Tech Football Tickets
Virginia Tech Football couldn't ask for anyone better than Frank
Beamer to guide its football program into the Atlantic Coast
Conference. When Beamer accepted the head Virginia Tech football
coaching job at his alma mater in 1987, his goal was for the Virginia
Tech football program to reach a consistent level of excellence. The
Virginia Tech Hokies have come a long way since that day, and along
the way, Beamer has become one of the most respected and successful
coaches on the college football scene.
Texas - OU
Tickets
As they've done every second Saturday in October since 1929, Texas
and OU will meet at the Cotton Bowl, about three hours from their
campuses. The State Fair of Texas will be in full swing outside the
stadium, while the seats inside will be split, crimson-clad OU fans
filling one side, those in burnt orange Texas fans on the other.
All NCAA Teams:
Alabama Tickets
The University of Alabama's men's basketball team has achieved
recent success, advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament
for the first time in school history in 2004, losing to eventual
champion UConn in the Phoenix Regional Final (formerly known as the
West Regional).
Alabama's head basketball coach is former Tide guard Mark Gottfried.
Arkansas Tickets
Following the 1983 season, longtime coach Lou Holtz departed and Ken
Hatfield, hero of the Razorbacks from the 1960's, returned as head coach. When
his first team won four games in the fourth quarter and surprised with seven
victories, interest in the program was rekindled. In '85 the Razorbacks went
10-2 and edged Arizona State in the Holiday Bowl. In 1986 Hatfield directed the
Arkansas Razorbacks to their first victory over Texas at Austin in 20 years and
a 14-10 triumph over Texas A& M led to an Orange Bowl invitation...
Auburn Tickets
The sports teams at Auburn University are known as the Tigers, and they
participate in the NCAA's Division I-A athletics and in the Western Division of
the 12-member Southeastern Conference (SEC). Auburn is very competitive
nationally in many sports in which it competes including football, baseball,
women's basketball, and swimming & diving (men's and women's).
Boston College Tickets
Like so many athletic traditions at Boston College, the adoption of the school
colors started with the students. In the mid-1880's, BC students were passionate
for their teams, but had no way of visually proclaiming where their loyalties
lay...
Florida State Tickets
The Florida State Seminoles school colors of garnet and gold are a merging of the University's past. In 1904 and 1905 the Florida State College won football championships wearing purple and gold uniforms. When FSC became Florida State College for Women in 1905, the football team was forced to attend an all-male school in Gainesville. The following year, the FSCW student body selected crimson as the official school color. The administration in 1905 took crimson and combined it with the recognizable purple of the championship football teams to achieve the color garnet. The now-famous garnet and gold colors were first used on Florida State University uniforms in a 14-6 loss to Stetson on October 18, 1947.
Gators Tickets
Every Florida Gators fan cheers for the team to do well during the NCAA College
football regular season. Tickets are in high demand and getting football tickets
is sometimes a hard task to accomplish. Luckily for football fans Ticket
Retriever specializes in obtaining the tickets you need and making them
available for purchase easily online.
Georgia Tickets
After three years heading up the Georgia football program, Mark
Richt has made it clear that winning with consistency will be a
standard for years to come. In three seasons, his Georgia football
teams have won two SEC Eastern Division titles, one SEC championship,
and his 32-8 record is fifth best in the country since 2001.
Georgia Tech Tickets
Georgia Tech students use white and gold as school colors for the first time, at an informal football game between Georgia Tech and Auburn University students. White and gold became a tradition two years later when they are worn by students from the Lucy Cobb Institute cheering for Tech at the first Tech-Georgia football game.
Kansas State Tickets
Manhattan native Tom Bookwalter, in cooperation with head coach Bill
Snyder, created the powerful logo that is a prominent feature on the
Kansas State Wildcats football helmet, at Wagner Field, on the back
of the Dev Nelson Pressbox, clothing, flags, bottled water, vanity
plates for cars and just about anywhere there can be one.
LSU Tickets
In the fall of 1896, Coach A. W. Jeardeau's LSU football team posted
a perfect 6-0-0 record, and it was in that season that LSU first
adopted its nickname. "Tigers" seemed a logical choice since most
collegiate teams in that year bore the names of ferocious animals.
However, the underlying reason LSU chose "Tigers" dates back to the
Civil War. During the War Between the States, a battalion of
Confederate soldiers comprised of New Orleans Zouaves and
Donaldsonville Cannoneers distinguished themselves at the Battle of
Shenandoah. These Louisiana rebels had been known by their fellow
soldiers as the fighting band of Louisiana Tigers. Thus, when LSU
football teams entered the gridiron battlefields in the fourth year
of intercollegiate competition, they tagged themselves as the
"Tigers." It was the 1955 "fourth-quarter ball club" that helped the
moniker "Tigers" grow into the nickname, "Fighting Tigers."
Miami Tickets
Breaking with Miami Hurricanes' recent history, the university named long-time assistant Larry Coker as University of Miami's 19th head football coach on Feb. 3, 2001. The impact of that hire was immediate. Miami's top-notch recruiting class held together, as did much of the coaching staff. And Coker's ascension kept the returning players focused on the stated goal of winning Miami's fifth national title.
Michigan State Tickets
Details are sketchy as to when Michigan State athletic teams officially began using the school colors green and white. But records of the Athletic Association of the then Michigan Agricultural College show that on April 11, 1899, the organization took steps toward adoption of a green monogram, "to be worn only by athletes who subsequently take part in intercollegiate events."
Michigan Tickets
The Michigan Wolverines' famed winged football helmet dates back to
1938, when Fritz Crisler arrived from Princeton University with his
penchant for detail and style.
Nebraska Tickets
The nickname "Cornhuskers" was first applied to Nebraska athletic
teams at the turn of the century by sports writer Charles "Cy"
Sherman of the Nebraska State Journal. Before adopting Sherman's
suggestion, Nebraska sports teams were called "The Bugeaters," "Tree
Planters," "Nebraskans," "Rattlesnake Boys," "Antelopes" and "Old
Gold Knights." Of course, today it is commonly shortened as
"Huskers."
Notre Dame Tickets
Lou Holtz was head coach at Notre Dame for 11 seasons from 1986-96,
where he rekindled the college football fortunes at one of the
country's most prestigious programs, claiming a national
championship and leading the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to nine
consecutive New Year's Day bowl games. Holtz quickly proved that he
could take Notre Dame back to the top of the college football world
and keep the program there on a consistent basis.

Ohio State Tickets
On November 25th 1950, Ohio State and Michigan battled in one of the
oddest, most memorable college football games ever played. The field
was totally covered with snow. What many people didn?t realize was
that the game was played with half of the field covered with a
tarpaulin because it was frozen to the ground. It didn?t matter
because there was so much snow. Just how bizarre was the game?
OU Tickets
History is one tough customer at OU football. The tradition, so rich
and so long-standing, is as daunting as it is impressive. To be
among the best at OU football is to be among the best in college
football. Such dramatics are lost on OU football?s Bob Stoops. The
OU Sooner head coach befriended the would-be albatross of OU
football?s successful past from his first day on campus and remains
steadfastly focused on tomorrow and the championship it holds.
Oregon Tickets
Originally, the prevailing campus sentiment was that Oregon
shouldn't degrade itself by dabbling in such nonsense as nicknames
and water fowl. The nickname game began early this century when
Oregon was originally known as "The Webfoot State." Students took a
shine to the slogan and referred to themselves as Webfoots and their
yearbook as "The Webfoot." (When the new motto became "The Beaver
State" in 1909, Oregon students changed the yearbook name to "The
Beaver" before switching back.)
Penn State Tickets
Penn State's athletic symbol, chosen by the student body in 1906, is
the mountain lion which once roamed central Pennsylvania. H.D. "Joe"
Mason, a member of the Class of 1907, conducted a one-man campaign
to choose a school mascot after seeing the Princeton tiger on a trip
with the Penn State baseball team to that New Jersey campus. A
student publication sponsored the campaign to select a mascot and
Penn State is believed to be the first college to adopt the lion as
a mascot.
Pittsburgh Tickets
The Panther was adopted as the University of Pittsburgh's mascot at a meeting of students and alumni in the autumn of 1909. According to George M. P. Baird, '09, who made the suggestion, it was chosen for the following reasons. Panthers are the most formidable creatures once indigenous to the Pittsburgh region. Panthers have ancient, heraldic standing as a noble animal. The close approximation of the panthers hue to the old gold of the University's colors, hence the panthers easy adaptability in decoration and the fact that no other college or university then employed the panther as a symbol.
Purdue Tickets
Boilermakers, the unique nickname of the Purdue athletic teams, originally was meant as a term of derision and was among several terms applied to Purdue by Wabash College supporters following a lopsided (18-4) victory by Purdue in 1889.
Tennessee Tickets
Tennessee acquired its name "The Volunteer State" in the early days
of the nineteenth century in the War of 1812. At the request of
President James Madison, Gen. Andrew Jackson, later President,
mustered 1500 from his home state to fight the Indians and later the
British at the Battle of New Orleans. The men never actually fought
in battle and Jackson was so frustrated by the inactivity that he
marched the men home at his own expense and his determined stance on
their behalf earned him the nickname "Old Hickory."
Texas A&M Tickets
Every university has its own set of traditions which help to
distinguish it from other institutions. Texas A&M University is no
exception. Perhaps nowhere else, though, are those traditions as
interwoven into the very fabric of the university than they are at
Texas A&M. As a result, Aggies have a lingo that is all their own.
The following list of terms helps to define what being an Aggie is
all about.
Texas Longhorns Tickets
University of Texas at Austin cheerleader Harley Clark knew what he was going to teach football fans at a 1955 pep rally was going to catch on faster than poodle skirts and leather jackets. It had to. After all, the Texas A&M Aggies' "Gig 'em" gesture had been around for years. Clark sold the student body on the symbolic approximation of the horns of Longhorn mascot Bevo and, thus, began the "Hook 'em Horns" hand signal. The salute quickly took its place beside the university traditions of singing The Eyes of Texas and lighting the Tower orange.
UCLA Bruins Tickets
With the same offensive lineman and nearly the same backfield as a
year ago, the UCLA Bruins went from the Pacific-10 Conference's worst
rushing offense to one of the best in the country. The unexpected
upgrade has been at the center of three consecutive UCLA Bruins
victories, but it also is bringing scrutiny from opposing teams.
USC Tickets
USC's nickname, "Trojans," originated in 1912. Up to that time,
teams from USC were called the Methodists or Wesleyans and neither
nickname was looked upon with favor by university officials.
Virginia Tech Tickets
Football at Virginia Tech officially kicked off on Oct. 21, 1892 when the school was known as Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. Its start, however, was slow. With VAMC PresidentJohn McBryde?s
approval and support, an athletic association was organized in
September 1891.
Washington Tickets
In 1995, the Washington Huskies' logo depiction of its Husky mascot was redesigned. The new version of the Husky was drawn by Michael G. Reagan using an Alaskan Malamute named Turbo Carrera as the model for the new image. The new version of the Husky shows a three-quarter profile of the mascot in a pose that is more majestic and regal than the previous version.
Washington State Tickets
In 1927, Governor Roland Hartley presented a cougar cub to the students of Washington State. This first cougar mascot of the Washington State Cougars was named Butch in honor of Herbert "Butch" Meeker of Spokane, who was Washington's gridiron football star at the time.
Wisconsin Tickets
The original badger mascot was too vicious to control. On more than
one occasion, the live badger escaped handlers before a sideline
hero recaptured the animal with a flying tackle. It was decided in
the interest of fan and player safety that Wisconsin's mascot be
retired to the Madison Zoo. The Badger Yearbook replaced the live
badger with a small raccoon named Regdab (badger backwards) and
passed it off as a "badger in a raccoon coat."
