For the fourth year in a row, the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl will pay over $2 million to the 2003 participating teams, bowl president Pete Hedley announced. The 2003 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl featured the 5th-ranked Texas Longhorns from the Big 12 Conference and the 14th-ranked Washington State Cougars from the Pacific-10 Conference. The Cougars defeated the Longhorns 28-20 before 61,102 fans at Qualcomm Stadium December 30.

Each university will receive $2,010,084. The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl began guaranteeing payouts in 1995 and has exceeded that figure each year. That number represents the ninth highest per team payout of 28 NCAA-sanctioned post-season bowl games. Since 1998, over $23.7 million has gone to the Pac-10 and Big 12 Conferences for their participation in the Holiday Bowl. Since its inception in 1978, the Bowl has contributed more than $59.4 million to the participating institutions.
